FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4270 M2 Front LED USB Assembly needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution

Note:

If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1

If this server is part of a Big Data Appliance, please follow shutdown instruction in DOC ID: 2099858.1

 

WHAT ACTION DOES ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Caution - Ensure that all power is removed from server before removing or installing LED module. You must disconnect power cables before performing this procedure.
1. Prepare server for service.
   a. Power off server and disconnect power cord(s) from power supply(s).
   b. Remove server from rack.
   c. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
   d. Remove top cover.
   e. If you are removing LED Module from a server with 2.5-inch storage drives, remove servers front cover.
2. Remove right LED/USB Module
   a. Disconnect LED/USB flex cable from connector board
   b. Disconnect LED cable from disk backplane
   c. Disconnect LED cable from LED/USB flex cable
   d. Loosen No. 2 Phillips screw that secures LED/USB module to server front panel
   e. Slide LED/USB module back and away from servers front panel
   f. Guide LED/USB flex cable out through chassis side wall
3. Install right LED/USB module
   a. Insert LED/USB flex cable in through opening chassis side wall
   b. Position LED/USB module on servers front panel
   c. Tighten No. 2 Phillips screw that secures LED/USB module to server front panel
   d. Connect LED cable to LED/USB flex cable
   e. Connect LED cable to disk backplane
   f. Connect LED/USB flex cable to connector board
4. If you removed left LED module from a server with 2.5-inch storage drives, install servers front cover.
2a. Remove left LED Module
   a. Remove No. 2 Phillips screw that secures LED module to server front panel
   b. Disconnect LED module cable from disk backplane and gently pull it through side wall of server chassis
   c. Remove LED module from server front panel
3a. Install left LED module
   a. Push front control panel light pipe assembly cable connector through servers chassis side wall
   b. Position light pipe assembly on side of server and tighten No. 2 Phillips screw to secure light panel to server front panel
   c. Connect light pipe assembly connector to disk backplane
4a . If you removed left LED module from a server with 2.5-inch storage drives, install servers front cover.
For both LED modules:
5. Return server to operation.
   a. Install top cover.
   b. Return server to normal rack position.
   c. Reconnect power cord(s) to the power supply(s) and power on server. Verify that AC Present LED is lit.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot up system and verify full functionality

If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow restart instructions in step 7 of DOC ID: 1188080.1

If this server is part of a Big Data Appliance, please follow restart instructions in DOC ID: 2099858.1
