Solution

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4270 M2 Power Supply Backplane needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution
Note:
If this server is part of an Exadata, please follow shutdown instructions in DOC ID: 1188080.1
If this server is part of a Big Data Appliance, please follow shutdown instruction in DOC ID: 2099858.1
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Prepare the server for service.
a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
b. Remove the server from the rack.
c. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
d. Remove the top cover.
Removing the power supply backplane
1. Remove the power supplies.
2. Remove the power distribution board.
3. Remove the power supply backplane.
a. Disconnect the power supply ribbon cable from the power supply backplane.
b. Remove the Phillips screw that secures the power supply backplane to the server’s chassis.
c. Lift the power supply backplane up and forward to clear the mushroom standoffs and lift it out of the chassis.
4. Place the power supply backplane on an antistatic mat.
Installing the power supply backplane
1. Install the power supply backplane.
a. Position the power supply backplane over the mushroom standoffs on the bracket and slide it down to engage the mushroom standoffs.
b. To secure the power supply backplane to the server chassis, install the Phillips screw.
c. Reconnect the power supply ribbon cable to the power supply backplane.
2. Install the power distribution board.
3. Install the power supplies.
4. Return the server to operation.
a. Install the top cover.
b. Return the server to the normal rack position.
c. Reconnect the power cord(s) to the power supply (or supplies) and power on the server. Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
