FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
. UPS Battery close to the end of its life span (two years)
. Messages indicating UPS Battery life span is approaching its end appearing in the syslog file
. UPS Battery defective or failed.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Array volumes backup recommended.
No special state required as long as the rest of the array modules are healthy, specially the remaining Power and Cooling unit.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Remove the Power and Cooling unit from the array
1.a. Power off the Power and Cooling unit by pressing the power switch
1.b. Disconnect the power cable from the AC outlet and from the Power and Cooling unit in that order
1.c. Unlock the Power and Cooling unit by using a coin or a small screwdriver to push in and release the two latch handles
1.d. Pull the Power and Cooling unit out of the array
2. Turn the removed Power and Cooling unit bottom-up
3. Remove the four Phillips screws from the panel of the bottom and side of the Power and Cooling unit
4. Slide the bottom panel off the unit slightly, enough to expose the battery connector
5. Remove the battery connector by pulling on it firmly straight out from the connector inside the Power and Cooling unit
6. Lift the bottom panel with the battery away from the unit and set it aside
7. Connect the replacement battery to the connector of the Power and Cooling unit
8. Seat the battery pack in the Power and Cooling unit such that the bottom panel is flush with the edges of the Power and Cooling unit
9. Replace the four Phillips screws and secure the bottom panel to the Power and Cooling unit
10. Reinstall the Power and Cooling unit in the array
10.a. Lock the Power and Cooling Unit by pushing in both latch handles
10.b. Connect the power cable to the Power and Cooling unit and to the AC outlet in that order
11. Press the power switch to the ON position
12. Verify that the AC LED on the Power and Cooling unit is amber, indicating that it is receiving AC power.
13. Reset the date by typing .bat -n u pcu from the T3+ CLI promt,
Where u is the unit number and pcu is the Power and Cooling unit number
14. Verify Battery life Warranty Date' and 'Battery Life Used'.

15. Check the Power and Cooling unit status using the 'fru stat' command or the Storage Automated Diagnostic Environment
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
