FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Battery is identified as defective or failed.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Array volumes backup recommended.
No special state required as long as the rest of the array modules are healthy, specially the remaining Power and Cooling unit in this Tray.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Remove the Power and Cooling unit from the array
1.a. Power off the Power and Cooling unit by pressing the power switch
1.b. Make sure that the blue SIS LED is lit
1.c. Disconnect the power cable from the AC outlet and from the Power and Cooling unit in that order
1.d. Remove the power cable from the cable clip on the Power and Cooling unit
1.e. Loosen the Phillips retainer screw to unlock the Power and Cooling unit latch handle
1.f. Pull up on the latch handle to release the Power and Cooling unit from its connector - pull the Power and Cooling unit straight out of the array
2. Turn the removed Power and Cooling unit bottom-up
3. Remove the four Phillips screws that secure the UPS Battery to the Power and Cooling unit
4. Lift the Battery up and out at an angle to disconnect it. Set the old Battery aside for recycling
5. Slide the new Battery in at a slight angle matching the male connector on the battery with the female connector on the Power and Cooling unit.
6. Secure the four screws that hold the battery in place
7. Replace the Power and Cooling unit in the array
7.a. Tighten the Phillips retainer screw to secure the Power and Cooling unit latch handle
7.b. Place the power cable into the clip on the Power and Cooling unit
7.c. Connect the power cable to the Power and Cooling unit and to the AC outlet in that order
8. Press the power switch to the ON position
9. Verify that the SIS LED is green, indicating that it is receiving power.
10. Check the Power and Cooling unit status using the 'fru stat' command or the Storage Automated Diagnostic Environment
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
No actions needed
