FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4270 M2 Power Distribution Board needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
You do not need to remove the motherboard to service the power distribution board
Caution - The server supplies power to the power distribution board even when the server is powered off. To avoid personal injury or damage to the server, you must disconnect the power cords before servicing the power distribution board.
1. Prepare the server for service.
a. Power off the server and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
b. Extend the server to the maintenance position.
c. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
d. Remove the top cover.
Removing the power distribution board
1. Disconnect the power supply ribbon cable from the PDB.
2. Disconnect the top cover interlock cable from the PDB.
3. Disconnect the motherboard ribbon cable from the PDB.
4. Remove the four No. 2 Phillips screws securing the PDB to the chassis.
5. Remove the five No. 2 Phillips screws securing the PDB to the bus bar.
6. To disconnect the power distribution board from the connector board, slide the PDB away from the chassis wall.
7. Lift the power distribution board up and out of the chassis.
8. Place the power distribution board on an antistatic mat.
Installing the power distribution board
1. Lower the PDB into the chassis.
2. Slide the PDB toward the chassis wall until it plugs into the connector board.
3. Install five No. 2 Phillips screws to secure the PDB to the bus bar.
4. Install the four No. 2 Phillips screws to secure the PDB to the chassis.
5. Connect the power supply ribbon cable to the PDB.
6. Connect the top cover interlock cable to the PDB.
7. Connect the motherboard ribbon cable to the PDB.
8. Return the server to operation.
a. Install the top cover.
b. Return the server to the normal rack position.
c. Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies) and power on the server. Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
