DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4170 M2, X4270 M2 Internal RAID HBA BBU needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Caution - Ensure that all power is removed from the server before removing or installing the battery. You must disconnect the power cables from the system before performing these procedures.
1. Prepare the server for service.
a. Ensure all RAID volumes that use the battery for cache are set to WriteThrough mode. Use LSI Megacli or StorMan manager to set it. This disables the cache to prevent data loss during replacement.
b. Power off the server and disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
c. Remove the server from the rack.
d. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
e. Remove the top cover.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
2. Remove the PCI Card .
3. Remove the battery module.
4. Install the new battery module.
5. Install the PCI Card .
6. Return the server to operation.
a. Install the top cover.
b. Return the server to the normal rack position.
c. Connect any required data cables to the PCIe card.
d. Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies) and power on the server.
7. Re-enable the cache set to WriteBack for any volumes that it was disabled for in step 1a. Use LSI Megacli or StorMan manager to set it. The re-enables use of the battery backed cache.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
