Solution
CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Servicing Customer-Replaceable Devices
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
General Sun X4140 servers HW knowledge
Time Estimate: 90 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
To hot-plug a drive you must take the drive offline (to prevent any applications from accessing it, and to remove the logical software links to it) before you can safely remove it.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Drive Status LEDs :
Blue : OK to Remove / Amber : Service Required / Green : OK/Activity
Caution - Always Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
Remove a Disk Drive
1. Identify the drive you wish to remove. The amber Service Action Required LED on the drive might be lit.
2. Determine if the drive can be hot-plugged, or cold-plugged.
3. Do one of the following:
a. To hot-plug a drive:
1. Unconfigure the drive, as required. You must take the drive offline before you can safely remove it.
2. Wait until the blue OK to Remove LED becomes lit, the blue LED indicates that the drive is unconfigured and can be removed.
b. To cold-plug a drive:
1. You must power off the server before you can safely remove the drive.
4. On the disk drive filler panel you want to remove, push the release button to open the latch.
5. Grasp the latch and pull the filler panel out of the drive slot.
Caution âÃÂàThe latch is not an ejector. Do not bend it too far to the right. Doing so can damage the latch.
Install a Disk Drive
If necessary, remove the drive fillers from the chassis.
Determine the drive slot location for the replacement drive(the replacement drive, must installed in the same slot as the drive that was removed).
Verify that the release lever on the disk drive is fully opened.
Slide the drive into the drive slot until it is fully seated.
Close the latch to lock the drive in place.
Do one of the following:
If you have cold-swapped the drive, restore power to the server.
If you have hot-plugged the drive, configure the disk drive. Refer to the Sun Disk Management Overview (820-6350) for information.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
For hot plug, configure the drive and verify drive availability.
Use appropriate software commands to re-activate/re-sync mirror if manual intervention is required
