FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4140, X4240 Power Distribution Board Cable needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Sys-admin required to shut the system down
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Take necessary precautions to avoid ESD.
1. Remove PDB Cable
Power off the server.
Disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
Slide the server out of the rack.
Remove the top cover.
Remove the air duct.
Remove the PDB end of the cable.
Release the locking latches on either side and then pull the cable straight up.
Grasp each end of the connector on the motherboard, and then pull straight up to disconnect from the connector.

2. Install replacement PDB Cable
Inspect the motherboard pin field to ensure all pins are straight
Open the locking latches on the PDB connector.
Ensure the key of the cable lines up with the slot on the connector.
Push the cable connector into the PDB connection until it is seated.
The latches should be above the connector housing.
Carefully align the motherboard connector to the motherboard pin field.
Gently press the connector down until it is seated. If you feel significant resistance, stop and check the pin alignment.
Replace the air duct.
Return the server to operation.
Install the top cover.
Slide the server into the rack.
Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies).
Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
Power on the server.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
sys-admin required to bring the system back online.
