How to Replace a Sun Fire X4240 Paddle Card.

Solution

DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
Sun Fire X4240 Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4240 Paddle Card needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Power off the server.
Disconnect the power cord (or cords) from the power supply (or supplies).
Slide the server out of the rack.
Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
Remove the top cover.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Removing the Paddle Card

Remove the motherboard assembly.
Remove the power distribution board.
Remove the fan power boards.
Remove the two No. 2 Phillips screws securing the paddle card to the chassis.
Slide the paddle card back, away from its connector on the hard drive backplane.
Lift the paddle card up and out of the chassis.
Place the paddle card on an antistatic mat.
Installing the Paddle Card

Lower the paddle card into the chassis.
Slide the paddle card forward to plug it into the hard drive backplane.
Secure the paddle card with two No. 2 Phillips screws.
Install the fan power boards.
Install the power distribution board.
Install the motherboard assembly.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies).
Power on the server.
