FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4240 Disk Backplane needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Ensure that all power from the server before removing or installing the drives cage.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
You must disconnected the power cables before performing this procedure.
1Removing the Hard Drive Backplane
1. Prepare the server for service.
a. Shut down the Solaris OS.
Open an SSH session and log in to the Service Processor.
Type:
stop /SYS
or
cd /SP/CtrlInfo
set powerctrl=off
2. Remove the DVD/USB drive.
3. Remove the four No. 2 Phillips screws securing the backplane to the hard drive cage.
4. Remove the hard drive cage.
5. Slide the backplane down and off the hard drive cage retention hooks.
6. Place the hard drive backplane on an antistatic mat.
2Installing the Hard Drive Backplane
1. Slide the backplane under the retention hooks on the hard drive cage.
2. Install the four No. 2 Phillips screws that secure the backplane to the hard drive cage.
The sequence is top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.
3. Install the hard drive cage.
4. Install the DVD/USB drive.
5. Return the server to operation.
a. Reconnect the power cord (or cords) to the power supply (or supplies).
Verify that the AC Present LED is lit.
b. Power on the server.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the system administrator verify functionality of system.
