GoalA video procedure on how to Remove and Replace a Faulty M3000 M4000 M5000 Power Supply SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS ARE REQUIRED?: No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure. TASK COMPLEXITY: 0 TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS: TOOLS REQUIRED: #2 Phillips screwdriver WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : NOTE: 200V Power supply units are active / cold replacement components. When performing active replacement only one power supply unit should be replaced at a time to ensure redundancy. NOTE: 100V Power supply units are cold replacement components only. Use the following XSCF command to determine if 100V or 200V power is installed: XSCF> showhardconf NOTE: It is forbidden to replace a 2nd Edition PSU ( 300-2311 ) with a 1st Edition PSU ( 300-2011 ).
WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED?: ACTIVE METHOD (no domain interruption): 1) Log in to XSCF and execute the replacefru command. ( Login account must have fieldeng permissions ) 2) Select PSU option in the menu. 3) Select the number of the faulted PSU in menu 4) Physically identify the correct faulted PSU before pulling out. 5) Perform the replacement operation according to the instructions displayed in the maintenance menu. CAUTION - PSU weighs approximately 4.5kg (10lbs). Care should be taken when removing the PSU so as not to drop the component. Removal/Insertion Instructions: a. Confirm the DC_OK LED is not lit. b. If the DC_OK LED remains lit push a paperclip through the pin-hole to activate the standby switch. c. Loosen the captive screw on the power supply unit using a #2 Phillips screw driver. d. Pull the handle down perpendicular to the server to unseat the unit. e. Pull the unit from the server and place it on a ESD safe work surface. f. Align the top of the replacement unit against the top of the slot. g. With the handle perpendicular to the server, push the unit into the slot. h. Lift the handle upwards all the way to seat the unit. i. Tighten the power supply unit captive screw using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
COLD METHOD (full chassis outage): 1) Shutdown domains and remove power from the platform. 2) Replace faulted PSU (see above removal/insertion instructions) 3) Poweron the platform. ALL METHODS: Once the replacement is complete check the status to ensure no further fru's are in degraded or faulted status. XSCF> showhardconf -M 6) Restart domains if needed. WHAT ACTION DOES NEEDS TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Verify all domains are up and running (e.g., showdomainstatus -a). PARTS NOTE: Repackage failed unit and return to Oracle.
