T3 / 6x20 product training

TASK COMPLEXITY: 3

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Failed or defective controller

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Explorer data provided
Ensure customer has backups
Stop IO to array if system is not in multi-pathed configuration

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Serial port CLI access to controller to validate type of controller failure or issues listed in event log and fru listing
Verify array health via management software (StorADE, Component Manager) output

1. Follow standard ESD procedures
2. Check and verify LED status on controller (Refer to reference section documentation for LED status depending on array type)
3. Remove cables (network, fibre)
4. Unlock controller latch handles
5. Pull the latch handles to remove the defective controller from the array
6. Insert the replacement controller into the chassis and push in the latch handles
7. Re-attach cables
8. Allow adequate time for the controller to complete it's boot and check LED status (Refer to reference section documentation for LED status depending on array type). Wait no more than 10 minutes for boot cycle.
9. Check status via CLI access using 'fru stat' or management software (StorADE, Component Manager). 'fru stat' output should show controller in 'ready enabled' state and status. Have customer clear alarm in StorADE.
10. If single tray unit, determine if firmware upgrade/downgrade is required. If required, download appropriate patch and follow patch instructions. Firmware will cross load from surviving controller if a Partner Pair or 2xN configuration.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Validate access to storage, check host logs
Run explorer/extractor from host
