How to Replace a Sun Fire X4600, X4600 M2 Power Distribution Board.

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
Sun Fire X4600, X4600 M2 Training

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4600, X4600 M2 Power Distribution Board needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Note: Require adjustable torque driver

If the system is still up and functioning, customer should perform an orderly and graceful shutdown of applications and OS
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Ensure standard ESD procedures are followed

1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords from power supplies
2. Remove the main cover
3. Remove the power supplies by grasping the handle, pushing the latch towards the center of the power supply and pulling the power supply
4. Disconnect the flex cable from the Power Distribution Board
5. Loosen the captive screw, (top right corner of Power Distribution Board) that holds it to the chassis
6. Remove the bus bar nuts that hold the Power Distribution Board to the chassis
7. Gently slide the Power Distribution Board upwards slightly to release from the keyed openings then pull out to remove
8. Install the replacement Power Distribution Board by aligning the keyed openings and sliding downwards
9. Replace the bus bar nuts and tighten using adjustable torque set to 7 in-lbs (0.8 Nm)
10. Tighten the captive screw using adjustable torque set to 7 in-lbs (0.8 Nm)
11. Reconnect flex cable to the connector on Power Distribution Board
12. Re-insert the power supplies and ensure they align correctly in the bay abd engage correctly with the Power Distribution Board
13. Replace the main cover
14. Re-connect the power cords

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot up system and verify full functionality
