PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4600 Motherboard Coin Cell Battery needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
As usual, the best is when customer shuts down the OS.
Also in case we need to rack out the server, as usual, write down to a paper sheet a complete
wiring diagram.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Steps to remove and replace the battery.
A Removing the battery
A.1.Power off the server.
A.2. The main covers needs to be removed. So either slide the server out of the rack far enough
for this, or remove it completely out of the rack.
A.3.Remove the main cover.
A.4.Remove the battery by gently pulling the spring-clip away from the battery face
and lifting the battery straight up.
B. Installing the new battery
B.1 Align the battery with the holder on the motherboard so that the positive polarity side
of the battery is facing the center of the chassis.
B.2 Press the battery down into the holder until the spring-clip snaps around the battery.
Caution ! Install the new battery in the holder with the same orientation (polarity)
as the battery that you removed. The positive polarity, marked with a "+" symbol,
should be facing toward the chassis center.
6.Replace the main cover.
C. Final steps
C.1 put back the server in its racks. That includes replugging all unpluggued cables if necessary.
