DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
Has gone through basic 2500/6000 Array Hardware Introduction
SANtricity Storage Manager

TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
RAID Controller has been determined as failed.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Array power must be on. DO NOT replace the controller with the power off.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:

Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.

1. Using SANtricity, preferably the customer's instance, verify the controller status as OFFLINE. If it is not OFFLINE,
a) click on the controller
b) Advanced Menu
c) Recovery Menu
d) Place Controller -> Offline
2. The Service Action Allowed indicator light must be on to ensure a safe condition for removal of the controller . If the Service Action Allowed indicator light is not turned on, another component requires attention before you can remove the controller . Run the Recovery Guru in the storage management software to determine what other components might require attention.
3. Disconnect all attached interface cables from the failed controller, including the SFP transceivers. Ensure that you label all cables so that you can reconnect them correctly to the new controller.
4. Remove the failed controller.
5. Install the new controller:
a. Carefully position the controller in the control module chassis. Ensure that the controller slides correctly into the control module chassis.
b. Slide the controller into the control module chassis, and push it firmly until the latches snap into place.
6. Reconnect all host interface cables and drive interface cables, including the SFP transceivers.
7. Wait approximately 60 seconds for the storage management software to recognize the new controller.
8. Place controller online(same steps as step 1).
9. Redistribute volumes
a) Advanced Menu
b) Recovery Menu
c) Redistribute Volumes

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
1. Faults in Recovery Guru for Offline Controller, RPA Memory Error, Drive Tray Lost Redundancy, and Drive Path Degraded no longer present on the system.
2. Controllers are both in an Online Status
3. Notify customer of any Volumes Not on their preferred path, and direct them to look at the hosts that access them, and failback the paths.
4. If applies, reactivate ASR.
