DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)

Basic Storage skills

TASK COMPLEXITY: 1

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

SCSI cable going from a host to the array is marginal/damaged or failed and needs to be replaced.

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

I/O should be stopped.

By default,Channels 1 and 3 (the upper middle SCSI port and lower left SCSI port on the I/O module) are host channels.

Write down SCSI cable connections.

The Sun StorEdge 33XX RAID array uses a point-to-point implementation. Each channel connector is on a separate
physical SCSI bus.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
In redundant array config force fail the controller where the cable needs to be replaced using below

1. Log in to array via serial shell
2. Check controller redundancy. Force fail the controller which requires cable replacement
Main Menu -> View and edit Peripheral Devices -> Set Peripheral Device Entry -> Redundant Controller Primary -> Force [Primary / Secondary] Controller ***Select appropriate controller (Primary or Secondary)
3. Remove the defective cable from the array and the host and replace with new one
4. Restore the force failed controller
Main Menu -> View and edit Peripheral Devices -> Set Peripheral Device Entry -> Redundant Controller Primary ->[Primary / Secondary] Controller ***Select appropriate controller to Deassert (Primary or Secondary)
5. Check array log for disk or other errors

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
Obtain explorer

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify access to storage and resume IO activity
Verify host log files (no SCSI errors being reported)
