FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Expansion tray ESM has been determined to be failed, and in need of replacement.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.
1. Locate the failed ESM by checking the fault lights. If a fault is detected, the Service Action Required LED (Amber) will be on and the Service Action Allowed (Blue) LED should be on. Note - The FLA200, FLA300 and FLC200 do not have the Service Action LED's.
Important: Potential loss of data access - Never remove a IOM assembly unless the Blue Service Action Allowed LED is "On". Note - This does not pertain to the FLA200, FLC200 and FLA300 drive trays.
2. From the failed ESM, disconnect the expansion tray interface cables including the SFP transceivers. Ensure that all cables are labeled before removing them.
3. Press the tab on the right (or left) side of the latch/handle and lift the latch/handle up at the same time to unlock the ESM and pull the the ESM out of the tray.
4. Unpack the new ESM and place the failed component in the antistatic bag.
5. Insert the new ESM and push the latch/handle in to the locked position.
6. Reconnect the expansion tray interface cables and the SFP transceivers to their original locations.
7. Wait approximately 60 seconds for the ESM to complete it's boot process. All Fault LEDs should be off.
8. Verify the ESM "Card Status" in SANtricity. The "Card Status" should show as "Optimal". If not please contact your Sun Service provider or your next level of technical support.
9. Finally the firmware revision level of the new ESM should be checked.
a) Select the "Fan/Battery/Temp" icon on the tray where the ESM was replaced.
b) Select "ESM Canisters".
c) Look for the "Firmware version:" to match between the two ESM's in the tray. If they do not match upgrade the ESM with the lowest firmware version.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN
OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. Verify that there is no Drive Tray Lost Redundancy, Failed ESM, faults in the recovery guru
2. If applies, reactivate ASR.
