FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Fibre Channel SFP has been determined to be failed, and in need of replacement.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.
1. The Service Action Required LED should be On on the front of the control module. If the alarm is sounding, turn the alarm Off by pressing the Mute Button on the front cover of the control module.
2. From the rear, locate the failed SFP transceiver by checking the SFP Bypass LED and the Service Action Required LED on the controllers. If a has been detected the SFP Bypass LED will be "On", however, the Service Action Required LED will be "Off".
3. Verify that the SFP is ready to be removed. The SFP transceiver status should be "failed". If the SFP transceiver is not "failed" call your Sun Service provider or your next level of technical support.
4. If this is a host SFP, disconnect the fiber-optic interface cable by squeezing the end of the cable connector. Make sure that the cables are labeled before removing them. The cables are fragile, use care when handling them. If this is an expansion tray SFP/cable, disconnect the SFP/cable by squeezing the end of the cable connector at both ends. Skip step five (5). â¨Important: To prevent possible loss of access to data - be sure to remove the correct cable and SFP. â¨Important: Potential degraded performance - To prevent degraded performance, do not twist, fold, pinch, or step on fiber-optic cables. Do not bend the fiber-optic cables tighter than a 2 inch radius.
5. Remove the failed SFP from the controller or IOM by pushing down on the small lever at the top of the transceiver.
6. Insert the new SFP until it clicks into place and is completely seated.
7. Insert the fiber-optic interface cable until it clicks into place and is completely seated. â¨a) The Green connector link LED should turn "On". â¨b) Verify that the Bypass and Fault LEDs are now off.
8. In SANtricity select the "Fan/Battery/Temp" icon for the tray that had the failed SFP. Click on "SFPs", find the replaced SFP and ensure it's status is "Optimal".
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
1. Verify that there is no Failed SFP, Drive Tray Lost Redundancy, Failed ESM, faults in the recovery guru if the SFP was on a drive tray/channel
2. If applies, reactivate ASR.
