DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
2500/6000 Array Hardware Introduction
SANtricity
TIME ESTIMATE: 15 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 0
FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: HDD has been determined as about to fail by an Impending Drive Failure fault on the array.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.
1. Verify Drive State
If a Hot Spare, deassign it.
If Unassigned, go to Step 3.
2. Use SANtricity, preferably the customer's installation, to verify the faults in the Recovery Guru. If there is already a Degraded Volume and/or Hot Spare in Use fault for the drive then continue to Step 3.
WARNING : FOR RAID 0, if the faults are Impending Failure Risk High, replacing the drive will cause data loss
3. Assigned HDD must be failed prior to replacement. Click on the drive in the AMW. Advanced->Recovery->Fail Drive
4. Turn on the drive locator LED. Right-click on the drive-> Locate Menu.
5. Locate failed Drive in the Tray.
6. Lift lever to release latch handle & slowly pull HDD out.
7. Verify the drive:
a) type: SAS/SATA/FC/SSD
b) size
c) RPM
8. Wait 2 minutes Drive has been removed & then insert new Drive. After Drive is fully inserted Green Drive Active LED will flash before staying on solid to indicate a ready state.
NOTE: A rapidly flashing Green LED indicates that data is being restored to the new Drive.
9. In SANtricity you should see new drive with a "yellow star" on it (this means replaced). If there is any other icon on drive please contact your Sun Service provider or next level of technical support.
10. Firmware revision level of new HDD can now be analyzed. Right click on replaced drive & select "Properties". Scroll down & note "Firmware version:".
If the drive firmware needs updating this will require an outage to be scheduled with the customer.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
1. Verify with customer that the drive is Optimal.
2. Verify the Volumes are reconstructing(if RAID 1,3,5,6). If not, you may need to manually reconstruct.
3. Verify that all Faults of drives bypassed, degraded drive channel, and impending failures have been removed from the system
4. If the Volume Group is a RAID 0, remind customer know that they need to either delete all the volumes on the VG, or initialize the VG.
Initialize RAID 0 VDISK:
1. Click on the drive-> Advanced -> Recovery->Revive->Drive->Type yes.
2. The initialize VG is found by Click on VG->Advanced->Recovery->Initialize
This may not be available to all customers. If the initialize option is not in the Volume Group menu,
then the volumes must be deleted.
If applies, reactivate ASR.
