FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
HDD has been determined as failed, and requires replacement.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE?:
Before beginning the repair procedure below, deactivate ASR temporarily so that additional Service Requests are not created.
After completing the repair procedure, reactivate ASR. Refer to <Document 1508403.1> ASR Deactivation / Reactivation via My Oracle Support.
1. Verify the HDD assignment status. If a HOT SPARE, UNASSIGN it before proceeding. Failure to do so may result in an alarm of "Missing Hot Spare Drive". Please consult DOCUMENT 1450121.1 if this occurs.
2. Use SANtricity, to turn on the HDD locator LED. Ensure that disk is in a "Failed" or "Bypassed" state in the Array Management window.
If the HDD is UNASSIGNED, turn on the locator LED, and continue to Step 3.
If in any other state please contact your Sun Service provider or next level of technical support.
The locator LED can be turned on by right-clicking on the failed HDD icon, and
using the Locate Menu.
3. Locate failed HDD in the Tray. Service Action Required LED (Amber) and Service Action Allowed (Blue) LED should be on(CSM200 trays only).
4. Lift HDD lever to release latch handle & slowly pull HDD out of tray.
5. Wait 2 minutes after failed HDD has been removed & then insert new HDD. After HDD is fully inserted Green HDD Active LED will flash before staying on solid to indicate a ready state.
NOTE: A rapidly flashing Green LED indicates that data is being restored to the new HDD.
6. In SANtricity you should see new HDD with a "yellow star" on it (this means replaced). If there is any other icon on HDD please contact your Sun Service provider or next level of technical support.
7. Firmware revision level of new HDD can now be analyzed. Right click on replaced HDD & select "Properties". Scroll down & note "Firmware version:".
If the HDD firmware needs updating this will require an outage to be scheduled with the customer.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:
1. Verify with customer that the HDD is in an OK or Optimal state.
2. Verify with the customer that the Volumes are reconstructing(if RAID 1,3,5,6). If it is not, you may need to manually start the reconstruction.
3. Verify that all Faults in the recovery guru regarding HDDs bypassed, degraded HDD channel, and impending failures have been removed from the system
4. If the Volume Group is a RAID 0, let the customer know that they need to either delete all the volumes on the VG, or initialize the VG.
Initialize RAID 0 VDISK:
1. Click on the drive-> Advanced -> Recovery->Revive->Drive->Type yes.
2. The initialize VG is found by Click on VG->Advanced->Recovery->Initialize
This may not be available to all customers. If the initialize option is not in the Volume Group menu,
then the volumes must be deleted.
If applies, Reactivate ASR.
