Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner. TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes TASK COMPLEXITY: 1 FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS PROBLEM OVERVIEW: How to replace a DIMM WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : The customer should conduct an orderly software and system shutdown. System power off is required. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: 1. Ensure system is shut down 2. Locate CPU/Memory board containing faulty DIMM. 3. Remove CPU/Memory board from system and place onto antistatic mat 4. Identify faulty DIMM using "J" number printed on the circuit board. See sun system handbook for diagram. 5. Replace faulty DIMM. 6. Re-seat system board 7. Set keyswitch to the DIAG position to and power on to run full POST to verify sucessful replacement Tip: If problems persist, repeat tests with minimum memory configuration. A problem on one bank may affect the other bank. 8. Move keyswitch to its previous position after POST completes successfully.
