GoalHow to remove and replace M4000/M5000 PCI Cassette******************************************************************************** SolutionDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Mseries training and basic field engineer skills TASK COMPLEXITY: 2 TIME ESTIMATE: 10 minutes FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? : If using cold replacement method the platform will need to be powered off. Domain outage will be required. If using hot replacement method the domain will need to be shutdown. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: The PCI cassette is a Cold, Hot and Active replaceable unit. NOTE: Pulling card without properly unconfigure card from Solaris may cause server to panic if doing an active replacement. Below are the steps for active replacement Note - Before you remove a PCI cassette, make sure that there is no I/O activity on the card in the cassette. Verify with the customer that the card / cassette have been isolated from the OS. ( cfgadm -a should show disconnected in the receptacle column ). The following steps should be performed if the card has not already been disconnected. From the Solaris prompt, type the cfgadm command to get the component status. Ap_Id includes the IOU number (iou#0 or iou#1) and the PCI cassette slot number (pci#1, pci#2, pci#3, pci#4). # cfgadm -a In cfgadm output the device will be seen connected & configured in Occupant & Condition column respectively Type the cfgadm command to disconnect the component from the domain: # cfgadm -c disconnect Ap_Id Type the cfgadm command to confirm the component is now disconnected. # cfgadm -a In cfgadm output the device will show disconnected & unconfigured in Occupant & Condition column respectively Note ! When the PCI cassette is removed with the
cfgadm command, the PCI cassette is isolated from the Solaris OS and the
power to the PCI card is automatically turned off Identify the correct location of the PCI cassette before pulling it out Once the PCI cassette is pulled out replace the cassette, swap the pci card, and insert back the cassette in the IOU unit Type the below command to configure the PCI card: # cfgadm -c configure Ap_Id # cfgadm -a In cfgadm output the device will be seen connected & configured in Occupant & Condition column respectively Below are the steps for cold / hot replacement: Confirm domain is shut down. Cold Replacement Method only - Remove power from the platform. Locate faulty PCI Cassette. Remove PCI Cassette from the system Insert new cassette into IOU. Cold Replacement Method only - Apply power to the platform. Verifying Hardware Operation: Verify the state of the status LEDs. The POWER LED should be On and the CHECK LED should not be On. XSCF> showstatus ( should show no faulted or degraded components ) OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: When using the cold / hot replacement method the customer may need to boot the domain.
