DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
OPL system training
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Motherboard Faulty
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
If this is a COD board and running XCP < 1115 a servicemode password should be obtained before the start of maintenance.
Check for COD status using "showboards -va".
A faulted DDC will continue to be faulted after replacing the MBU. The fault will need to be cleared using "clearfault". XCP < 1115 will need to obtain a servicemode password before performing the maintenance.
1.Power off server.
Turn key switch to Service position, confirm POWER LED is off, & disconnect power cables.
Caution - To prevent equipment rack from tipping, deploy anti-tilt feature, if applicable, before sliding server out of rack.
Note - When drawing out Server to front
release cable tie holding PCI cables on rear of server.
2. Remove top cover.
Caution - Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components.
3. Remove all CPU modules and filler panels.
Note - If motherboard unit is only being removed to provide access to
busbar, and weight of the motherboard is not a problem, Step 4 can be skipped.
4. Remove all memory boards.
5. Loosen 2 captive screws that secure cable management arm to
left rear of server.
6. Disconnect cable management arm from equipment rack
7. Push server back into rack.
8. Loosen two captive screws that secure motherboard unit handle in place.
9. Pull motherboard unit handle down
Caution - The motherboard unit is a long and heavy assembly that houses
system motherboard on the underside. The motherboard unit is heavy. Two people are recommended to lift the unit.
10. Remove motherboard unit from server.
11. Align new motherboard unit & slide it into the rear of server.
12. Push motherboard unit handle up to seat board.
13. Tighten two (2) captive screws to secure motherboard unit handle.
14. Pull system out of rack.
15. Install all CPU modules and filler panels.
16. Install all memory boards.
17. Install top cover.
Slide server in to equipment rack and restore anti-tilt features to original position.
18. Tighten the two captive screws that secure cable management arm to left rear of the server.
19. Connect cable management arm to the equipment rack.
20. Power on the server
Reconnect power cables, verify state of LEDs, and turn keyswitch to Locked position.
21. If this is a COD board replacement change to servicemode and run "enablecodboard <cmu#>"
example
service> enablecodboard 0
22. Confirm hardware fix.
Run programs to be certain all components are mounted again & then boot OS
xscf> showstatus
xscf> showhardconf -M
Note: Please be aware when running XCP1114 the MBU status may become "degraded" and won't be able to be cleared. See doc 1538391.1 for more information.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
