FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Tape Drive Faulty

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The tape drive unit is an active replacement component, no need bring down the system

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1.Remove the tape drive unit from the domain.

This step includes using the cfgadm command to determine the Ap_Id and

disconnecting the tape drive.

2. Remove the Tape Drive Unit

Caution - Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components.

3. Put a No. 1 screwdriver into the tape drive unit release hole to release the catch

that holds the tape drive unit in place

4. Remove the drive from the server and place it on the ESD mat

Caution - Do not force the tape drive unit into the slot. Doing so can cause damage

to the component and server.

5. Place the tape drive unit into the slot and gently push it in until it locks in

place.

6. Add the tape drive unit to the domain.

This step includes using the cfgadm command to connect and confirm the tape

drive unit has been added to the domain.

7. Verify the state of the status LEDs on the tape drive.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Boot the system and start the application as per the sys admin procedure
