DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS*
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Engineer should be OPL product trained
TASK COMPLEXITY: 2
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
For additional steps specific to Fibre Channel (FC) HBA card replacements see doc 1407550.1.
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer is not required to perform a system shutdown.
Someone with root access is required to properly unconfigure/configure the card per instruction below.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
NOTE: Pulling card without properly unconfigure card from Solaris may cause server to panic if doing an active replacement.
Cassettes are active or cold replacement components
Active replacement of PCI Cassette
1. Identify the HBA to be replaced
IOU#0 is on the right when viewed from the rear
PCI cards are numbered upwards from 0
2. Verify with the customer that the card / cassette have been isolated from the OS. ( cfgadm -a should show disconnected in the receptacle column ).
The following steps should be performed if the card has not already been disconnected.
a. Before you remove the cassette, verify with the customer that there is no I/O activity on the card in the cassette.
b. From the Solaris prompt, type the cfgadm command to get the component status.
# cfgadm -a
Ap_Id includes the IOU number (iou#0 or iou#1) and the cassette slot number (pci#1, pci#2, pci#3, pci#4).
Type the cfgadm command to disconnect the component from the domain.
# cfgadm -c unconfigure Ap_Id
# cfgadm -c disconnect Ap_Id
Verify component is now unconfigured
# cfgadm -a
Note: When the PCI cassette is removed with the cfgadm command, the PCI cassette is isolated from the Solaris OS and the power to the PCI card is automatically turned off
3. Label the cables and disconnect from cassette
4. Push the lever to the right to unseat cassette
5. Remove the cassette from the slot and place it on the ESD mat
Remove the Card from Cassette
1. Open the cassette lever until it is 90' angle to the cassette & pull the cassette out
2. Loosen the 3 captive screws on the adjustable stops with a screwdriver and move the adjustable stops away from the card
3. Remove the card from the cassette and place it on the ESD mat
Installation & Configuring of Card on Cassette
1. Installation is the reverse of the above procedure
2. From the Solaris prompt, type the cfgadm command to connect the component to the domain
# cfgadm -c configure Ap_Id
3. Type the cfgadm command to confirm the component is now connected & configured
# cfgadm -a
4. Reconnect cables.
Cold replacement of Cassette
1. Shutdown the OS & power off the system
2. Label and disconnect cables from the cassette
3. Push the lever to the right to unseat the cassette
4. Remove the cassette and place it on the ESD mat ( See above Remove the Card from Cassette )
5. Install new card into cassette and insert cassette
6. Poweron the system and boot the OS
7. Verify the component is connected & configured
# cfgadm -a
8. Reconnect cables to port(s)
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Check for full functionality
PARTS NOTE:
NOTE: Use procedure in this CAP since Service Manual below has incorrect procedure for replacing hba cards, see bug 6719218.
