FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
How to replace a SBus card

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software and system shutdown.

System power off is required.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

1. Identify the slot of the sbus card to be replaced.

2. The system could be mounted in a rack, so it will be necessary to use some tools to umount it

3. Release the IO board containing the failing sbus from the system card cage

4. Remove the 2 screws that secure the SBus card to the back panel

4. SBus cards are locked by Nylon standoffs, so they need to be unlocked by pulling up the tips of the 2 standoffs

5. Carefully lift the SBus card from the socket at an angle while guiding the face plate out from the back panel opening. The connector housing may break if the SBus card is tilted too far

6. In order to install the new SBus card, remove the black plastic card retainer shipped with the card.

7. Carefully insert the SBus card into the socket. Pins could be bent if both connectors are not well aligned

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
If the sbus replaced was an Ethernet card, then verify the network connectivity

If the sbus replaced was a Fiber or SCSI card, then verify that all the disks are well recognized, and synchronize any disabled disk (via SVM or VxVM).

PARTS NOTE:

The IO+ board has 3 SBus card locations

The Graphics+ IO board has 2 SBus card locations
