GoalHow to remove and replace a M4000 Power & IO Backplane******************************************************************************** To report errors or request improvements on this procedure, please go to http://support.us.oracle.com and put a comment on Doc ID: 1310839.1 ******************************************************************************** SolutionCAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Power I/O BackplaneDISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED: Engineer should be M4000/M5000 product trained TASK COMPLEXITY: 4 TIME ESTIMATE: 90 Minutes FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution. The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord. WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: 1. Turn key switch to Service position, confirming that POWER LED is off, and disconnect power cables 2. Remove top cover Remove I/O unit 1. Disconnect & label all cables that connect to I/O unit 2. Remove cassettes from I/O unit 3. Using a No. 1 screwdriver, press lock button on left side of I/O unit to free unit release lever 4. Lower release lever to unseat I/O unit 5. Remove I/O unit from slot and place on ESD mat Remove XSCF unit Remove Motherboard unit 1. Remove all CPU modules & filler panels 2. Loosen two captive screws that secure motherboard unit handle in place 3. Pull motherboard unit handle down 4. Remove motherboard unit from server Remove Power Supply units Remove 60mm Fan units 1. Place a No. 1 screwdriver into fan release hole & pull upwards on handle to unseat fan Remove Fan cover Remove CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Backplane 1. Remove CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Unit from server & place it on ESD mat 2. Remove power & serial cables from rear of CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Backplane 3. Loosen captive screw that holds the rear of CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Backplane in place 4. Remove CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Backplane & place it ESD mat Remove SPARC Enterprise M4000 Backplane Unit 1. Disconnect backplane unit cables The backplane unit ships with cables so old cables should be removed 2. Disconnect flat red cable from the bottom left of backplane unit 3. Disconnect blue serial cables from storage device backplanes 4. Disconnect power cables from storage device backplanes 5. Remove cables from plastic cable router 6. Loosen backplane end of ground cable & disconnect cable 7. Loosen 8 green captive screws that hold backplane unit in position The screws can be accessed through the now empty power supply unit sockets 8. Angle backplane unit and then pull it partially out of the server Reach one hand through power supply opening and disconnect grey operator panel cable from backplane unit 9. Remove backplane unit & place it on ESD mat Installation is the reverse of the above procedure WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Boot & check for full functionality Confirm hardware fix by running the following commands: XSCF> showhardconf -M XSCF> showstatus REFERENCE INFORMATION: Service Manual: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19855-01/index.html Attachments This solution has no attachment |
