WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Engineer has to complete the OPL system training

TASK COMPLEXITY: 2

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Accessing 60-mm Fan Backplane
Caution - There is an electrical hazard if power cords are not disconnected. All power cords must be disconnected to completely remove power from server.
1. Power off the server.
Turn key switch to Service position, confirm that POWER LED is off, & disconnect power cables.
Caution - To prevent equipment rack from tipping over, deploy anti-tilt feature, if applicable, before sliding server out of the rack.
Note - When drawing out server to front,release the cable tie holding PCI cables on rear of server.
2. Remove fan cover.
Deploy rack's anti-tilt features (if applicable), slide server out of rack, remove 60-mm fan units, & remove fan cover.
Caution - Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components.
3. Remove CD-RW/DVD-RW drive backplane.
Remove CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Unit & CDRW/DVD-RW drive backplane.
Remove 60-mm Fan Backplane
4. Observe how cable bundle routes beneath left front edge of 60-mm
fan backplane. This routing must be duplicated when backplane unit is
reinstalled.
5. Remove 3 cable connectors on forward edge of 60-mm fan backplane
6. Loosen 2 green captive screws
7. Remove 60-mm fan backplane from server & place on ESD mat
Installing 60-mm Fan Backplane
8. Put 60-mm fan backplane into place.
Be certain cables are routed beneath backplane so backplane is
level & no cables are pinched.
9. Tighten 2 green captive screws.
10. Connect 3 cables to forward edge of fan backplane.
11. Install CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive backplane.
Install CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive Backplane & CDRW/DVD-RW Drive Unit.
12. Install fan cover.
Replace fan cover, install 60-mm fan units, slide server in to rack & restore rack anti-tilt features to original position.
13. Power server on.
Reconnect power cables, verify state of LEDs & turn keyswitch to Locked position.
Note - If Solaris automatic booting is set, use sendbreak -d domain_id
command after display console banner is displayed but before system starts
booting operating system to get ok prompt.
14. Confirm hardware fix.
Run programs to be certain all components are mounted
again & then boot OS

xscf> showstatus
xscf> showhardconf -M

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system & start application per sys-admin procedure
