How to Replace a Sun Fire X4150, X4250 DVD/USB Drive Assembly.

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4150, X4250 DVD/USB Drive Assembly needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Removing the DVD/USB Module
1. Remove media from the drive.

2. Power off the server.

3. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.

4. Remove the Sun Fire X4150 Server HD7 hard drive.

5. Release the DVD/USB module from the drives backplane.

6. Slide the DVD/USB module out of the drives cage.

7. Place the module on an antistatic mat.

Installing the DVD/USB Module

1. Slide the DVD/USB module into the front of the chassis until it seats.

2. Install the drive you removed during the DVD/USB module removal procedure.

3. Power on the server.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the System administrator verify functionality of system.
