FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Failed Power Distribution Board
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Data backup not required but recommended as a precaution
Orderly shutdown of applications
Shutdown of OS and power down of server
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Ensure standard ESD procedures are followed
1. Power off the server
2. Disconnect and remove the power cords
3. Remove the power supplies by pressing the green tab towards the center of the power supply and pulling out
4. Remove the top cover by pulling the release tabs to release the door and moving the fan door to the open position. Press the top cover release button and slide the cover back to allow you to lift it straight up
5. Remove the air baffle
6. Remove the PCI riser boards and PCI cards
7. Disconnect the hard drive data cables from the motherboard
8. Remove the plastic air flow baffle between the fans and the motherboard
9. Remove the processor heat sinks
10. Remove the 4 screws that hold the motherboard to the bus bar
11. Loosen the green screws that hold the motherboard to the chassis
12. Lift the motherboard out of the chassis
13. Disconnect the Power Distribution Board (PDB) ribbon cable from the (PDB)
14. Disconnect the top cover interlock cable from the PDB
15. Remove the screw that holds the PDB to the chassis
16. Pull the PDB away from the paddle card towards the center of the chassis disengaging from it's keyed hole
17. Lift the PDB up and out of the system
18. Install the replacement PDB by aligning over the standoffs in the chassis
19. Slide the PDB towards the paddle card until it plugs in
20. Install and tighten the screw to secure the PDB to the chassis
21. Connect the top cover interlock cable to the PDB
22. Install the motherboard back into the system and tighten the 4 screws to secure the motherboard to the bus bar
23. Tighten the green captive screws to secure the motherboard to the chassis
24. Install the plastic air flow baffle between the fans and the motherboard
25. Install the processor heat sinks
26. Connect the PDB ribbon cable to PDB
27. Connect the hard drive data cables to the motherboard
26. Install the PCI riser boards and PCI cards
27. Install the air baffle
28. Install the power supplies
29. Replace the top cover
30. Re-connect the power cords
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify functionality, no service LEDs or messages. Verify via ipmitool output
Gather and upload explorer
