Starcat Training, Familiarity with SMS command set.
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should fail-over to the OTHER SC and disable SMS failover
Preparation:
Note: Before shutting down and powering off a SC make sure that clock from the other SC to all components is in a good state. To check this run "showboards -c" command for SMS 1.4 and later. ( See *Document ID: 1006413.1 Check clock status before replacement of System controller for more information )
As user sms-svc (or another user with platform privileges), verify:
- that the other SC is MAIN (showfailover -r)
- that the other SC is the current clock source (showboards -c)
- that failover is disabled (showfailover)
- shut down target SC ("init 0"), then power it off from the main SC using "poweroff scX"
Physical Replacement:
- Remove the SC CPU board and place on antistatic mat
- Remove memory board from SC CPU board. Note that these are NOT dimms, and pay special attention to the plastic retention clips holding the modules in place.
- Replace the affected memory board.
- Re-Insert the SC CPU board into the frame.
Poweron spare SC:
- "poweron scX"
- Observe boot sequence, ensure extended POST runs (OBP variable diag-switch?=true) and that no errors appear
- Wait for SMS to start, then enable failover "setfailover on"
