How to replace a V245 Disk Backplane
Solution

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
V245 product knowledge/training to be qualified as Oracle service personel.
TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

*FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS*
PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Disk Backplane is faulty.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown
Power down System & disconnect Power Cords
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
1. Power off the system
2. Remove the optional DVD super-multi drive from the chassis (if installed).
3. Remove all hard drives from the chassis.
Note - Identify the slot in which each hard drive belongs for later installation into
the chassis.
4. Remove the upper and lower cable retainers
5. Disconnect the motherboard/SAS backplane cable from the hard drive
backplane
6. Remove the three screws that secure the hard drive backplane
to the hard drive card cage assembly
7. Remove the hard drive backplane from the chassis and place it on an antistatic matt.
8. Unpackage the replacement hard drive backplane and place it on an antistatic
mat.
9. Use three screws to attach the hard drive backplane to the hard
drive cage assembly
Note - Do not tighten the screws until all three of them are in place.
10. Reinstall the DVD super-multi drive (if necessary).
11. Connect the motherboard/SAS backplane cable to the replacement hard drive
backplane.
12. If necessary, connect the motherboard/SAS backplane cable to the DVD supermulti
drive.
13. Install the upper and lower cable retainers
14. Reinstall all hard drives in the slots from which you removed them.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot the system and start the application as per the sys admin procedure
