SE450 product knowledge/training to be qualified as Oracle service personel.

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: DVD Failure

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord. Then Position the System for Service, Remove the System Cover, Avoid Electrostatic Discharge and Remove the Removable Media Assembly (RMA).

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

1) Remove a DVD Drive

1. Remove the four screws securing the drive to the removable media assembly.

2. Slide the drive out from the front of its bay in the removable media assembly.

3. Place the drive on an antistatic mat.

2) Install a DVD Drive

1. If necessary, remove the plastic filler panel from the removable media assembly plastic cover.

2. If you are replacing a defective drive, make sure that the jumper settings on the new drive match the settings on the old drive.

Note: Setting the SCSI Target ID
Your DVD-ROM device is factory set to SCSI target ID 6. You can also set the SCSI ID on a drive that is installed into a device using a target ID selector switch with a flex cable.

3. Slide the DVD drive into its drive bay.

4. Insert and tighten the four flat-head Phillips screws that secure the drive in its bay.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.

PARTS NOTE:

1. The minimum CD-ROM mode operating system is Solaris 2.5.1.
2. The minimum DVD-ROM mode operating system is Solaris 8.
3. The M1401 model requires patch  to run on Solaris.
4. The M1401 reached end of production in August 2003.
5. The M1401 was replaced with the M1711 in August 2003.
6. Performance specifications for the M1711 exceed those of the M1401.
