Fix
CAP PROBLEM OVERVIEW: CSB replacement (CSB supports centerplane)
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Starcat Training, Familiarity with SMS command set
TASK COMPLEXITY: 4
TIME ESTIMATE: 90 minutes
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should fail-over to the OTHER SC and disable SMS failover
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Note: all commands need to be executed on the MAIN SC.
Note: Before shutting down and replacing an SC make sure that clock from the other SC to all components is in a good state. To check this run "showboards -c" command for SMS 1.4 and later. ( See *Document ID: 1006413.1 - Check clock status before replacement of System controller for more information )
Preparation:
As user sms-svc (or another user with platform privileges), verify:
- that the other SC is MAIN (showfailover -r)
- that the other SC is the current clock source (showboards -c)
- that failover is disabled (showfailover)
- the system is using the other CSB ( showbus )
- Use dynamic bus reconfiguration to specify the Sun Fireplane interconnect assembly half that will remain active. Type the following command: [ setbus -c x ] where x is CS0 or CS1. This represents the centerplane support board that will remain powered on.
- shut down SC attached to faulty CSB (init 0), then power it off from the main using "poweroff scX csX"
Replace CSB:
- Physically remove SC and SCPER and place on antistatic mat
- Remove CSB carrier plate and place on second antistatic mat
- Replace faulty CSB
- Replace carrier plate into chassis
- IMPORTANT: insert SCPER board BEFORE inserting SC. Insert SCPER, then SC.
Calibrate CSB:
- IMPORTANT: Wait 5 minutes before continuing -- this is required for thermal calibration
- Run "thermcal -w CS<0/1>" to perform thermal calibration.
- Run "updateseeprom platformtype <value>"
platformtype: <value>={F12K|SunFire12K|F15K|SunFire15K|E20K|SunFireE20K|E25K|SunFireE25K}
Final Steps:
NOTE: Verify SMS is running on the spare SC before proceeding to the next step.
- Restart SMS on the MAIN SC. Allow 60 seconds between stopping SMS and restarting SMS to allow processes to fully exit.
- If previously deconfigured, use the dynamic bus reconfiguration to enable both halves of the Sun Fireplane interconnect assembly. [ sc% setbus -c cs0,cs1 ]
- Enable failover by typing "setfailover on" on the Main SC.
