How to remove and replace a Sun Fire V445 Front I O Board Assy

Solution

Nothing beyond basic partner training to be qualified as a Sun Service Delivery Partner

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Front I O Board Assy faulty

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown
Power down System & disconnect Power Cords

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Caution - The system supplies power to the front I/O board even when the system
is powered off. To avoid personal injury or damage to the system controller card,
you must disconnect the AC power cords before servicing the front I/O board.
Before You Begin
Note - You must remove all four motherboard fan trays (FT0, FT1, FT2, and FT3)
before performing this procedure.
Complete the following tasks:
1. Power Off the System
2. Sliding the Server Out of the Cabinet
3. Avoid Electrostatic Discharge
4. Removing a Fan Tray
5. Removing the Motherboard Fan Cage
What to Do
6. Disconnect the I/O ribbon cable from the rear of the I/O board.
7. Remove the two Phillips No. 2 screws securing the I/O board to the floor of the
chassis.
8. Slide the I/O board back off its studs and lift it up.
9. Disconnect the front indicator board ribbon cable from J586 on the I/O board.
Place the I/O board on an antistatic mat.
10. Install the Front I/O Board
11. Connect the front indicator board ribbon cable to J586 on the I/O board.
12. Place the I/O board on the mounting studs in the floor of the chassis and slide the
I/O board forward.
13. Replace the two Phillips No. 2 screws securing the I/O board to the chassis.
14. Connect the I/O ribbon cable to the I/O board.
15. Installing the Motherboard Fan Cage
16. Installing a Fan Tray
17. Sliding the Server Into the Cabinet
18. Powering On the System

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot the system and start the application as per the sys admin procedure
