DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V880/V890 Server

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Lower level firmware

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
Customer should take normal precautions to backup data, notify users of maintenance and that the system will be powered down. Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

To determine what version of firmware is current, and download current firmware See <Document 1342226.1>

The installation shall comprise of the following steps

1) Determine system's current Flash PROM firmware (OBP) revision.
From the OS;
/usr/sbin/prtconf -V -or-  /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v | grep OBP
From OBP;   
.version

2) Compare current OBP revision with available OBP revision.
3) If current OBP revision is lower than the provided OBP revision in this patch, proceed to the next step. If NOT, STOP: DO NOT CONTINUE.
4) Prepare system for OBP update
  a) As root, copy "flash-update" file from the directory containing the patch to the root directory as follows:
   # cp flash-update* /
   # chmod 755 /flash-update*
     To boot the binary, it must be located in the root partition.  If it is not already located within the root partition then move it to /.
    b) As root, exit the OS such that the system returns to OBP:
    # halt   
    c) Jumper J1104 is factory-set so that the flash PROM is write-enabled. There is no need to switch the jumper before flash updating; however, you must ensure that keyswitch is in the Power-on or Diagnostics
position. When keyswitch is in the locked position the flash PROM is write protected.
5) Running the Flash PROM Utility
    a) Power on the system and wait for the PROM's banner to appear.
    b) Use the Stop-A keys (or Break key, if running from a serial line) to abort the auto-boot sequence.
    c) The system should now display the OBP "ok" prompt.
    d) Boot the Flash update utility as given below:
          ok boot disk /flash-update-SunFire880
6) Verify successful Flash PROM Update
7) Restore system and resume operations
    a) Allow the system to auto-boot, or issue boot command for your environment as necessary.
    b) Once the system has rebooted you may wish to remove the Flash Update binaries and documents since they will no longer be needed.
     # rm /flash-update*
    c) Remember to remove files from their original location if not extracted directly into root directory.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Start software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
