DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED?:
The engineer or system administrator should review the Sun Storage J4400 Array Power Supply Replacement Guide prior to performing the work.

TIME ESTIMATE: 30 minutes

TASK COMPLEXITY: 0

DELIVERY REQUIREMENT:
Part should be shipped when available. The part is a CRU (Customer Replaceable Unit). There is no maintenance window required. All work should be performed live.

FIELD ENGINEER / ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

J4400 Array contains two hot-swappable, redundant power supplies. If one power supply is turned off or malfunctions, the other power supply maintains electrical power. Use ESD Precautions.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

NOTE: If ASR is enabled, it should be deactivated temporarily before servicing the equipment so that additional unnecessary Service Requests are not created.

DEACTIVATING ASR WITH CAM 6.10: ASR is automatically deactivated when you select "Reserve the tray for maintenance" in Service Advisor, and it is reactivated when you select "Release the tray from maintenance" in Service Advisor.

DEACTIVATING ASR WITH CAM 6.9 OR EARLIER: Before proceeding with the part replacement:

1. Log into CAM.
2. Go to "Storage Systems" -> [your arrayname] -> "Administration" -> "Array Health Monitoring".
3. Uncheck the box "Enable ASR for this array" under the section "Monitoring for This Array". If the box is already unchecked, there is no action required. Remember the status however, as it will matter in step 3 of REACTIVATING ASR WITH CAM 6.9 OR EARLIER below.
4. Click on "Save" if you have unchecked the box in step 3 above.

Removing Power Supply:

  • Locate the respective disk tray and failed power supply.
  • Ensure the power supply on/off switch is in the "O" position.
  • Disconnect the power cord tie strap.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power supply.
  • Using your thumb and forefinger, unscrew both ejection arm captive screws until loose and swing the ejection arms out until they are fully open.
  • Pull the power supply out of the tray(careful to not damage the circuit board connector).

Replacing Power Supply:

  • Unscrew both power supply ejection arm captive screws and swing the ejection arms out until they are fully open.
  • Slide the new power supply into the tray slot until it contacts the chassis backplane and the ejection arms begin to swing closed.
  • Push the ejection arms closed fully and secure both captive screws to seat and secure the power supply in the tray.
  • Ensure the power supply on/off switch is in the "O" position.
  • Plug the power cord into the new power supply and attach the power cord tie strap to the power cord.
  • Place the power supply on/off switch to the "I" position.

Verify:

  • Verify the Power status LED is steady green and the Power fault LED and the Fan fault LED are off.
  • An explanation of the 4 Power Supply / Fan Assembly status LED's may be found in Figure 2 of the Replacement Guide
  • Additionally, confirm the alarm has cleared from the Common Array Manager (CAM) management software.
  • If problems persist, follow Doc ID 1002514.1 Collecting Sun Storage Common Array Manager Array Support Data for evaluation from Oracle technical support.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE?:

REACTIVATING ASR with CAM 6.10: ASR is automatically deactivated when you select "Reserve the tray for maintenance" in Service Advisor, and it is reactivated when you select "Release the tray from maintenance" in Service Advisor. If ASR was not enabled before beginning this procedure, selecting "Release the tray from maintenance" will not activate it.

REACTIVATING ASR WITH CAM 6.9 OR EARLIER: After proceeding with the part replacement:

1. Log into CAM.
2. Go to "Storage Systems" -> [your arrayname] -> "Administration" -> "Array Health Monitoring".
3. Check the box "Enable ASR for this array" under the section "Monitoring for This Array". Do this ONLY if you unchecked the box in step 3 of DEACTIVATING ASR WITH CAM 6.9 OR EARLIER. If you found the box was unchecked, leave it unchecked now.
4. Click on "Save" if you have checked the box to reactivate ASR.
