DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
- WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Field training in Sun Fire V880/V890 Server

- TIME ESTIMATE: 50 min
- TASK COMPLEXITY:    3

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty Base FC-AL Backplane

- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution.
The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
* Follow standard ESD procedure to avoid discharges

Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues, Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose.  If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.

See:  Guidance for POST Diagnostic Level Setting on Sun Fire[TM] 280R, V480, V490, V880, V890 and V880z servers. (Doc ID 1582330.1) for details.

1. Power Off the System
2. Open and Remove Side Door
3. Remove all Disk Drives
4. Remove both I/O Fan Trays
5. Remove a CPU Fan Tray
6. Remove the CPU Fan Status Assembly
7. Remove the FC-AL Disk Cage
8. If the expansion FC-AL backplane is installed, disconnect the following cables:
a.FC-AL data cable (H and G) from the base backplane at connectors H(J01103) and G(J01102)
  b. FC-AL data cable (F and E) from the base backplane at connectors F(J01103) and E(J01102)
9. Disconnect the disk status flex circuit cables from the base backplane at connectors J01001 and J01000.
10. Remove the three Phillips screws and nylon washers securing the base backplane to the disk cage.
11 .Remove the backplane from the system.
12. Position the base FC-AL backplane against the disk cage.
13. Fasten the three screws and nylon washers that secure the backplane to the disk cage.
14. Connect the disk status flex circuit cables to the base backplane at connectors J01001 and J01000.
15. If the expansion FC-AL backplane is installed, connect the following cables:
a.FC-AL data cable (C and D) from connectors C(J01100) and D(J01101) on the expansion backplane to the base backplane at connectors H(J01103) and G(J01102)
b.FC-AL data cable (A and B) from connectors A(J0201) and B(J0200) on the expansion backplane to the base backplane at connectors F(J0501) and E(J0500)
16. Install the FC-AL Disk Cage
17. Install the CPU Fan Status Assembly
18. Install a CPU Fan Tray and I/O Tray
19. Install all Disk Drives
20. Close Side Door
21. After installing an expansion backplane, power on the system and bring up the system to the ok prompt.
22. Allow the system to remain at the ok prompt for at least 10 minutes to ensure that the two backplanes are loaded with the same version of firmware.  The system automatically synchronizes the firmware versions between the two backplanes.  Verify firmware versions all match with:

# luxadm display enclosure_name

Where enclosure_name is the enclosure name assigned to the Sun Fire 880/890 internal storage array by default, FCloop.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
