FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4450 Connector Board needs replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Data backup not required but recommended as a precaution
Orderly shutdown of applications
Shutdown of OS and power down of server
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Ensure standard ESD procedures are followed
1. Power off the server
2. Disconnect and remove the power cords
3. Remove the power supplies by pressing the green tab towards the center of the power supply and pulling out
4. Remove the top cover by pulling the release tabs to release the door and moving the fan door to the open position. Press the top cover release button and slide the cover back to allow you to lift it straight up
5. Follow canned action plan procedure to remove Sytem Board/Motherboard
6. Follow canned action plan procedure for removing Power Distribution Board
7. Follow canned action plan procedure for removing Fan Power Board
8. Remove two screws that hold the Paddle Board to the chassis
9. Slide the Paddle Board back away from the connector on the hard drive backplane
10. Gently lift the Paddle Board up and out of the chassis
11. Insert the replacement Paddle Board into the chassis
12. Install and tighten two screws to secure the Paddle Board to the chassis
13. Install the Fan Power Board
14. Install the Power Distribution Board
15. Install the System Board/Motherboard
16. Install the power supplies
17. Replace the top cover
18. Re-connect power cords
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify logs for errors
