FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS:
- PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty PCI IO Board
- WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE
RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?:
A data backup is not a prerequisite but is a wise precaution
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown
Power down System & disconnect Power Cords
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Follow standard ESD procedure
Note:
Use max post only when searching for IO Controller issues(max post does not add testing for PCI cards), Fatal Resets, and Unrecoverable Errors(UEs) that Solaris is unable to properly diagnose. If diag-level is set to max at OBP, confirm with customer that if can be moved to the factory default of min.

Remove Side Door
Remove PCI Cards
Remove RSC Card
1. Disconnect AC power cords
Remove Fan Trays
Remove PCI Card Bracket
1. Remove PCI card dividers
2. Disconnect PCI status cable (P36) from I/O board
3. Remove screws securing PCI card bracket to chassis & I/O board stiffener
4. Remove PCI card bracket
Remove PCI I/O Board
1. Disconnect following cables from I/O board
a. Narrow SCSI cable (P1) from connector J3403
b. Ultra Wide SCSI cable (P1) from connector J3402
c. I2C cable (P18) from connector J3805
d. System status assembly cable (P32) from connector J3803
e. Fan power cable from connectors J3804(P6), J3807(P10) and J3806(P3)
f. Fan status cable (P28) from connector J3801
g. I/O signal cable (P26) from connector J3201
h. I/O board remote sense cable (P29) from connector J3202
i. I/O board power cable (P14) from connector J3203
j. PCI external status cable (P23) from connector J3601
2. Remove hex standoffs securing serial port plate
3. Remove back I/O plate from rear panel
4. Remove PCI divider card base
5. Remove 8 screws securing I/O board to system centerplane
6. Remove I/O board from system
7. Transfer SEEPROM module from old I/O board to new I/O board
Install PCI I/O Board
1. Position I/O board in system against centerplane. Use pins on back of I/O board for alignment
2. Replace eight screws securing I/O board to centerplane
a. Insert top center screw & tighten by 2 turns
b. Insert screw directly beneath top center screw & tighten by 2 turns
c. Insert top left & right screws & tighten by 2 turns
d. Insert remaining screws & tighten by 2 turns
e. Fully tighten screws in pattern described above
3. Secure PCI card divider base to I/O board with 4 screws
4. Replace back I/O plate on system rear panel
5. Replace hex standoffs securing serial port plate
6. Reconnect cables to I/O board in reverse order to removal
Replace PCI card bracket
1. Position PCI card bracket in system
2. Replace screws securing PCI card bracket to chassis & I/O board stiffener
3. Connect PCI internal status cable (P36) to I/O board at connector J3102
4. Replace 8 PCI card dividers
Replace Fan Trays
Replace RSC Card
Replace PCI Cards
Refit Side Door
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
- WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO
AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot server and confirm full functionality
