How to Replace a Sun Fire X4450 PCI Riser Board.

WHAT SKILLS DOES THE FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR NEED:
No special skills required, Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) procedure

FIELD ENGINEER/ADMINISTRATOR INSTRUCTIONS:

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: A Sun Fire X4450 PCI Riser Board needs replacement

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

Data backup not required but recommended as a precaution
Orderly shutdown of applications
Shutdown of OS and power down of server

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Ensure standard ESD procedures are followed

1. Power off the server and unplug (REMOVE) the power cords
2. Remove the top cover
3. Locate the PCI Riser Board to be replaced
4. Label cables and disconnect from the PCI card attached to the Riser Riser Board
5. Remove the back panel PCI cross beam by loosening the captive screws at each end and lifting it up and back to remove
6. Loosen the captive screw on the end of the PCI Riser Board. Remove the riser and the PCI card attached to it as a whole
5. Carefully remove the PCI card from the PCI Riser connector
6. Install the PCI card into the replacement PCI Riser Board connector
7. Re-install the PCI Riser Board by sliding it back until it sits in the slot in the back panel and tighten the captive screw
8. Re-install the cross beam and tighten the captive screws
9. Re-connect the cables previously removed from the PCI card
8. Replace the top cover
9. Re-attach the power cords

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Verify access to PCI card and attached peripheral
