DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.
TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: ALOM Identified as faulty and needs replacement.
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 5"), and after the system has shut down, run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
NOTE: When replacing the service processor in LDOM environment, prior to the replacement follow the steps and guidelines in Document 1019720.1 to prevent loss of LDOM configuration data and recover LDOM environment after replacement.
1. Verify the system has been shut down by the customer.
2. Gain access to the top of the server. If it is necessary to slide the server forward, ensure adequate cable management is in place so that cables do not become disconnected or damaged. Disconnect power from the system.
3. Open the top cover, following ESD procedures.
4. On the Netra, remove the PCI Tray.
5. Remove the ALOM card from the system board
6. Remove the System Configuration PROM from both the new and replacement ALOM cards
7. Insert the PROM containing the customer's configuration into the new ALOM card, and the replacement PROM into the card to be repaired
8. Insert the replacement ALOM into the System Board
9. On the Netra, insert the PCI Tray.
10. Apply power the system, monitoring ALOM startup via the management serial port.
11. Use SC setdate command to set ALOM day and time (before you power on host system), see example:
sc> setdate mmddHHMMccyy.SS
Note: The date format includes the month, day, hour, minute, century, year, and seconds. The century value and the value for seconds can be omitted. Your server uses local time, but ALOM CMT uses Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). ALOM CMT does not accept time zone conversions or daylight time changes.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE:
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
