REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T2000 SAS Controller PCI-X Card replacement.

Note: SAS HBA 370-7696 is only used in the pre-RoHS Sun Fire T2000 (The RoHS T2000 has onboard SAS.)

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

DAMAGE ALERT: Perform a visual inspection of the replacement part to make sure that there are no damaged components, connectors, bent pins, damaged packages during shipping, etc. If the part is damaged, don't install it into the system, order a new part. Handle with caution and package carefully the return part to avoid any damages during shipping.

Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0").Then,
At the OK prompt Type #. (in key sequence) to get into Alom.
Run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED:
1. Shutting the System Down

2. Extending the Server to the Maintenance Position

3. Performing Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures

4. Disconnecting Power From the Server

5. Removing the Top Cover

6. Unpackage the replacement SAS Controller PCI-X and place it on an antistatic mat.

7. Locate the SAS Controller card that you want to replace. The SAS HBA is factory installed in Slot PCI-X 0 and this should not be changed (PCI-X slots 0,1 are on far right from rear of system). Remove card.

8. Insert New SAS PCI-X card into the socket by Rotate the PCI hold-down bracket 90
degrees to lock the card in place.

9. Place the top cover on the chassis.
Set the cover down so that it hangs over the rear of the server by about an inch.
10. Slide the cover forward until it latches into place.

11. Return system to normal rack position.

12. Reconnect all cables that were removed to resume normal operation.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTIONS ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
   * If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
   * If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
