E2900 or v1280 product training or sufficient field experience with Sun hardware replacement procedures Task Complexity: 4 TIME Estimate: 120 minutes *FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS* PROBLEM OVERVIEW: E2900/v1280 baseplane replacement WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?: Cold Part swap system down - System should be brought down gracefully either init or shutdown commands. Example: init 0 shutdown -y -g0 -i0 WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE: Basic Field tool kit needed to perform this procedure. Use proper ESD grounding techniques when handling components. Wear an antistatic wrist strap and use an ESD-protected mat. Store ESD-sensitive components in its ESD safe packaging box before placing them on any surface. This procedure requires the system to be extended out of the system cabinet on its slides. You must extend the system cabinet stabilization bar. Take the system to Standbymode. Make sure that the leveling feet are extended to the floor Extend and lock the system cabinet stabilization bar. Prepare ESD surfaces to place the boards and components you will remove. Follow the detailed procedure in the E2900 System Server Manual, chapter 13 (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19095-01/sfe2900.srvr/817-4054-15/817-4054-15.pdf) reconnect all the I/O cables and Power Cables Return the chassis to its original rack position. OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE: Power on system and watch serial port for post errors, watch boot sequence for hardware errors. Once booted check dmesg output and prtdiag and fmdump for system faults. If no problems were found return system to user.
