FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty Tape Drive
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
Customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord. Then Position the System for Service, Remove the System Cover, Avoid Electrostatic Discharge.
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Removal:
1. Disconnect I/O power cable from removable media assembly power connector.
2. Disconnect removable media SCSI cable from removable media SCSI connector.
3. Pull off plastic cover from front of removable media assembly. Press down on top of plastic cover with your fingers until tab on top of cover disengages from chassis.
4. Loosen two captive Phillips screws securing removable media assembly to chassis.
5. Slide removable media assembly out of system chassis.
6. Place assembly on an antistatic mat.
7. Remove four screws securing drive to removable media assembly. There are two screws on each side of drive.
8. Slide drive out from front of its bay in removable media assembly. Push drive from back to start removal process.
9. Place drive on an antistatic mat.
Installation:
1. When replacing a defective drive, make sure that jumper settings on new drive match the settings on the old drive.
2. Slide tape drive into its drive bay. Align two screw holes on each side of drive with the corresponding holes in each side of drive bay.
3. Insert and tighten four flat-head Phillips screws that secure drive in its bay. There are two screws on each side that secure drive in RMA.
4. Slide removable media assembly into system chassis.
5. Tighten two captive Phillips screws securing removable media assembly to system chassis.
6. Replace RMA plastic cover. Align two posts on bottom of cover with corresponding holes at front of chassis, and align tab on top of cover with its corresponding hole and press down on top of center of cover evenly until it snaps into place.
7. Reconnect removable media assembly SCSI cable to removable media SCSI cable connector.
The connector is keyed so that it connects in only one way. For information about cable connector locations, see "How to Connect the System Cables" on page 130.
8. Connect the I/O power cable to the removable media assembly power connector. The connector is keyed so that it connects in only one way.
9. Replace System Cover
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the System administrator verify functionality of system.
