WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
SE450 product knowledge/training to be qualified as Oracle service personel.

TIME ESTIMATE: 60 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:
Faulty Disk Backplane

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown. Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord. Then Position the System for Service, Remove the System Cover, Remove all Disk Drives, Avoid Electrostatic Discharge.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Removal:

1. Disconnect the I/O power cable from the UltraSCSI backplane at connector J0101.  See Step 4 for the location of the UltraSCSI backplane in the system.
2. Disconnect the UltraSCSI data cable from the UltraSCSI backplane at connector J0102.  Press the levers on the sides of the backplane connector.
3. Disconnect the removable media SCSI cable from the UltraSCSI backplane at connector J0302

4. Remove the two Phillips screws that secure the UltraSCSI backplane to the chassis.
5. Remove the backplane from the chassis.  Place the backplane on an antistatic mat.

Installation:

1. Position the UltraSCSI backplane in place behind the disk drive bay in the chassis.
2. Replace the two Phillips screws that secure the UltraSCSI backplane to the chassis.
3. Connect the UltraSCSI data cable from the main logic board to connector J0102 on the UltraSCSI backplane. The connector is keyed to attach in only one way.
4. Connect the removable media assembly SCSI cable to connector J0302 on the UltraSCSI backplane.
The connector is keyed to attach in only one way.
5. Connect the I/O power cable to connector J0101 on the UltraSCSI backplane.  The connector is keyed to attach in only one way.
6. Replace the System Cover.
7. Install all Disk Drives.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Restart system and have the System administrator verify functionality of system.
