DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
T5120/T5220 product knowledge or training
TIME ESTIMATE: 170 minutes
Task Complexity: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: Faulty System Config IDPROM
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
A data backup of the EEPROM settings & possibly the disk is a pre-requisite. The EEPROM settings will need to be reprogrammed into the new IDPROM
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0"), and after the system has shut down Switch from the system console to the -> prompt by typing the #. (Hash Period) key sequence. At the -> type exit then log into admin account (ALOM)
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
*** Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge
NOTE: When replacing a faulty IDPROM module, you must obtain the host ID, MAC addresses, and ILOM configuration settings stored in the IDPROM module you are replacing. This will enable you to configure them into new IDPROM module. If the previous IDPROM module had modified ILOM configuration variables and you recorded them, you can configure the new IDPROM module with those values. Please refer to doc 1003953.1 for details on the IDPROM ordering procedure.
Removal:
1. Use the showsc ALOM CMT compatibility command to display the ILOM configuration variable settings in the IDPROM module being replaced. Record these values for use when you install the new IDPROM module.
2. Power off the server.
3. Remove the server from the rack.
4. Attach an antistatic wrist strap.
5. Remove the top cover.
6. Remove the air duct.
7. Remove PCIe/XAUI riser 2. (On the Netra - remove the PCI & Memory Mezzanines. )
8. Pull the IDPROM module straight up from its connector. Note - The server will not function correctly without the System Config IDPROM module installed.
Installation:
1. Unpack the replacement IDPROM module and set it on an antistatic mat.
2. Align the IDPROM module with its connector on the motherboard. Note - The IDPROM module and its connector are keyed.
3. Press the IDPROM module down until it seats.
4. Install PCIe/XAUI riser 2. (On the Netra - install the PCI & Memory Mezzanines. )
5. Install the top cover.
6. Slide the server into the rack.
7. Connect the power supplies. Note - As soon as the power cords are connected, standby power is applied. Depending on how the firmware is configured, the system might boot at this time.
8. Power on the server.
9. Reconfigure the EEPROM settings
