How to replace a 220R and  420R Fan Tray Assy

220R/420R product knowledge/training to be qualified as Oracle service personel.

TIME ESTIMATE: 45 minutes

FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS

PROBLEM OVERVIEW:

Faulty Fan Tray

WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :

A data backup is not a pre-requisite but is a wise precaution.

The customer should conduct an orderly software system shutdown.

Then power down the system and disconnect the Power Cord/s.

WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:

Follow standard ESD procedures to avoid Electrostatic Discharge

How to Remove the Fan Tray Assembly:

1. Ensure the System is shutdown gracefully with init 5 and powered off. Disconnect the power cable.

2. Remove the System Cover

3. Loosen the two captive Phillips screws securing the fan tray assembly to the chassis.

4. Lift the fan tray assembly out of the system chassis.

How to Install a Fan Tray Assembly:

1. Position the fan tray approximately 2 inches (5 centimeters) over its final location in the system chassis.

2. Route the UltraSCSI disk data cable flat under the tab on the side of the fan tray assembly.

3. Route the main power and keyswitch/power button/LED cables under the right notch on the fan tray assembly.

4. Route the I/O power and the control cables under the left notch on the fan tray assembly.

5. Lower the fan tray into place in the system chassis.

- Align the tabs on the fan tray assembly with the notches on the chassis. Make sure that you keep the UltraSCSI data cable flat against the side of the fan tray assembly.

Note – As you lower the fan tray assembly, ensure that the cables remain properly routed under their notches on the fan tray assembly.

6. Tighten the two captive Phillips screws securing the fan tray assembly to the chassis.

OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE

WHAT ACTION DOES THE CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:

Power On the system and monitor the POST output.

On the RSC Card you can use the command "environment" to look at the Status of the FANs in Solaris use prtdiag -v to check the Status.
