Solution
DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:
Hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.
TIME ESTIMATE: 50 minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T2000 Fan board replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY? :
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 0").
Then, At the OK prompt Type #. (in key sequence) to get into Alom.
Run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
1. Shutting the System Down
2. Extending the Server to the Maintenance Position
3. Performing Electrostatic Discharge Prevention Measures
4. Disconnecting AC Power cable From the Server.
5. Gain access to the top of the server where the fan door is located.
6. Unpackage the replacement Server Fan power board and place it on an antistatic mat.
7. Lift the latch on the top of the fan door, and lift the fan door open.
The fan door is spring loaded, and you must hold it in the open position.
8. Remove 3 fans by pulling up on the each fan strap handle until all the fans are
removed from the fan bay.
9. Remove the screw that secures the fan power board to the chassis.
10. Slide the fan power board to the right to disengage it from the front I/O board.
11. Remove the fan power board from the front fan bay and place the board on an
antistatic mat.
12. Lower the new fan power board into place and slide the board to the left to plug it into
the front I/O board.
13. Secure the board to the chassis with the screws.
14. Reinstall all three fans; with the fan door held open, slide the each fan into the fan bay.
Apply firm pressure to fully seat the fans!
15. Re-install AC Power cables back.
16. Verify that the LED on the all fans and the Top fan, Service Required, and
Locator LEDs are not lit.
17. Close the fan door and If necessary, return the server to its normal position in the rack.
OBTAIN CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE
WHAT ACTION DOES THE FE/CUSTOMER NEED TO TAKE TO RETURN THE SYSTEM TO AN OPERATIONAL STATE:
Boot system and monitor boot sequence for errors. Test functionality of system:
1. Run the Solaris "fmadm faulty" and SP/ILOM "show faulty" command (if only ALOM is supported run "showfaults -v" command) to verify that the fault has been cleared.
2. Perform one of the following tasks based on your verification results:
* If the previous steps did not clear the fault, refer to doc 1004229.1 for information about the tools and methods you can use to diagnose and clear component faults.
* If the previous steps indicate that no faults have been detected, then the component has been replaced successfully. No further action is required
3. Restart software applications per applicable administration guides to resume system operation.
