DISPATCH INSTRUCTIONS
WHAT SKILLS DOES THE ENGINEER NEED:(IS A SITE ENGINEER AVAILABLE?)
Basic Sun hardware FE skills, familiarity or training for T2000 platform.
TIME ESTIMATE: 150 Minutes
TASK COMPLEXITY: 1
FIELD ENGINEER INSTRUCTIONS
PROBLEM OVERVIEW: T2000 SAS Disk Backplane replacement
WHAT STATE SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE IN TO BE READY TO PERFORM THE RESOLUTION ACTIVITY?
Customer should shut the operating system down gracefully (using "init 5"), and after the system has shut down run the following commands from the ALOM:
1. setlocator on
2. poweroff
WHAT ACTION DOES THE ENGINEER NEED TO TAKE:
Remove the SAS disk backplane:
1. Verify the system has been shut down by the customer.
2. Gain access to the top of the server. If it is necessary to slide the server forward, ensure adequate cable management is in place so that cables do not become disconnected or damaged.
3. Open the top cover, following ESD procedures.
4. Remove the DVD from the chassis:
5. Remove all hard drives from the chassis. Note the slot in which each drive belongs.
6. Disconnect the SAS power cable from the power cable plug.
7. Note of which SAS data cable is plugged into which slot and disconnect the four SAS data cables from the SAS disk backplane.
8. Remove the five screws that secure the SAS disk backplane to the chassis. There is one screw in the centre and one in each corner.
9. Remove the SAS disk backplane from the chassis and place it on an antistatic mat.
Install Replacement SAS Disk Backplane:
1. Place the SAS disk backplane on the two ledges on the bottom of the drive cage assembly, with the power connector facing down toward the bottom of the chassis.
2. Secure the backplane to the drive cage assembly with five insulating washers and five screws
Insulating washers are supplied with the replacement FRU. Install one insulating washer with each screw even if the original SAS disk backplane did not have any washers.
3. Replace Cables, DVD Drive and Hard Disks removed earlier.
4. Replace the top cover (be aware of the chassis intrusion switch, located to the left when standing in front of the T2000).
